Second day at Red Pine! Another early morning for me, but I guess it was slightly easier then yesterday… All the girls here are great, super friendly :] Much better than the girls I normally meet just out and about. Meredith was here last, this is her second year. Claire.. I’m not sure how long she’s been around. Hannah, it’s her first time here as well and she’s from England as well as Abby who just got here today, well Abby is from Scotland and Shazia is also from Salt Lake City like me. We met up in Milwaukee and flew to Rhinelander together.
Today we got to groom all the horses, clean them up a bit and make them look handsome. All of them are geldings, “No mares aloud”, says Beth :p I’ve picked out my favorite two already, Little Red and Piper. Beth thinks Little Red is part Quarter Horse but he is just so tiny, less than 15 hands for sure. He’s a cute little chubby chestnut with a white star on this forehead with three white socks. Piper is part draft horse and has little feathers. He is a overo bay pinto with black legs and a bald face. And a beautiful moving trot and great conformation, very up right when he makes himself look pretty :] I’ve posted pictures on facebook (facebook.com/kayleycovert) if you would like to see. I don’t want to re-post pictures on here sorry :p
Alright so now I’m back with about an hour to spare. It’s been my first real day at Red Pine Camp. And it is so freakin’ green out here! So many bugs too.. I don’t like that part, but it is BEAUTIFUL! We got a tour first thing in the morning after breakfast and I will admit I am glad I’m staying in Shadow Glen (the local house) rather than in a cabin with the girls as a counselor. It seemed like it would be realllyyyy cold at night in the cabins. I could do that for 2 weeks… not two and a half months! So luckily I get to stay in a nice cozy house not too far from the horses, but a nice hike from the kitchen lol.
We got the horses around 1pm and 2pm. Umm… much bigger then my little Arabs at home :p Some were kind of rough looking, but if they’re a good horse you’ll need them for the little ones ya know? And some of the horses were actually quite pretty. One horse that caught everybody’s eye was Vino. He’s a huge Dark bay Crossbred, not sure what, nice conformation and used to be a Hunter Jumper for a young girl so a perfect horse for this camp! I think my favorite was Vino’s best friend, Brownie, that’s what the guy called him anyway. We might name him something better :p He’s a tiny little chubby chestnut. He looked cute and fun so hopefully I’ll get to ride him regularly :]
Tomorrow we bring them in to groom and settle them into the barn and the training officially starts! Woohoo!
First day at Red Pine Camp! Well last night technically, but I’m short on time. So I’ll write more later, but I’m way excited to get started!
